Microbiology and virology lab in list of Member State Labs performing NoV and HAV

In the beginning of 2017, Primoris Bulgaria started with an accredited microbiology lab for 14 microbiological and 2 virological methods, being the first lab in Bulgaria to receive the ISO 17025 accreditation for virological analyses (Hepatitis A and Norovirus) in food and feed.

We want to inform you that the microbiology and virology lab has been included in the list of Member State Laboratories capable of doing viruses in soft fruits (version 13 from 17/10/2017), established by the European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL). This document has been prepared by the EURL in cooperation with the EU network of National Reference Labs and other European laboratories. The intent is to provide a guide to Member State Competent Authorities and others wishing to identify laboratories able to supply virus testing services for soft fruits.

Why perform microbiological food analyses?

Microbiological analysis of food products are applied to control the microbiological quality of the food or to evaluate food safety by means of detection of foodborne pathogens and/or their toxins.

It is advisable that only relevant parameters are analyzed, meaning (depending on the food products) those microorganisms responsible for spoilage of the food, or those microorganisms causing a potential risk for food safety and public health.
