Method: Update of our fosetyl aluminium method

On Monday 18 March, we’ve performed a method update regarding our analyses of fosetyl aluminium in order to keep supporting the different market needs from, amongst others, the organic and baby food sector.

What is fosetyl-aluminium?

Fosetyl aluminium is a systemic fungicide that acts by inhibiting spore germination and penetration into the plant, and by blocking mycelial growth and spore production. It also has a useful activity against several bacterial plant pathogens. It is rapidly absorbed through the plant leaves or roots, with translocation inside the plant, both upwards and downwards.

Legislation

The current residue definition is established in Regulation (EC) N°396/2005 for Fosetyl-Al comprises the sum of Fosetyl, phosphonic acid and their salts, expressed as Fosetyl.

Currently MRL’s are set based on Regulation N° 2018/832 of 5 June 2018.

Modifications existing method FAL_01_A

Through an internal optimization of the existing analytical method, the reporting limit of phosphonic acid has been lowered thanks to the new methodology from 0,2 ppm to 0,1 ppm:

Reporting limit [FAL_01_A] method since 18/03

  • fosetyl:  0.01 ppm
  • phosphonic acid: 0.1 ppm (before 18/03: 0,2 ppm)
  • sum, recalculated to fosetyl aluminium: 0.01 ppm

Organic and baby food sector – New method PAFA_01_A

To comply with the demands of the organic and baby food sector, we’ve developed the new method PAFA_01_A for which we can offer a reporting limit of 0,01 ppm for phosphonic acid.

Reporting limits [PAFA_01_A] method since 18/03

  • fosetyl:  RL 0.01 ppm
  • phosphonic acid: RL 0.01 ppm
  • Sum, recalculated to fosetyl aluminium: RL 0.01 ppm
